Proclamation
City of El Paso, Texas

WHEREAS:
|
Stephen F. Austin High School was built
in 1929 and opened its doors to students in September 1930, and
is the second oldest high school in El Paso, Texas; and
|
WHEREAS:
|
R. E. McKee Construction Company built the
school, using a Spanish mission architectural style. The main building
is constructed of light tan bricks, and sloping parts of the roof
are covered in red Spanish tile. The structure is surmounted by
a 103-foot tower. The classrooms have marble floors and the hallways
are floored with terrazzo; and

WHEREAS:
|
Austin High School students have proudly
worn the school colors of brown and gold for 75 years; and
|
WHEREAS:
|
The 75th anniversary of Austin High School is marked by the opening
of the Sandra Day 'Connor Criminal Justice/Public Service Academy,
the establishment of the Police Drop-In Center, and the designation
as the official DOD school for Ft. Bliss
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the
Mayor and City Council of the City of El Paso, that May 21 through
May 27, 2006 shall be recognized as
|
|
"AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL WEEK"
|
